Located just 15 minutes from Exeter, the education centre at Wildwood Devon offers year-round day programmes and residential trips during the spring, summer and autumn terms. Our education facilities include the Greenwood Centre, the Yurt Village and the Saxon Village complete with authentic kitchen and forge.
All of our programmes enable children to learn from a variety of topics in our adventurous and natural outdoor environment. Our qualified teaching staff and assistants will guide your pupils through a full day which will challenge, entertain, educate and engage with from arrival to departure.
Our living history programme allows students to delve into the past and enjoy activities focused around the time of the Anglo-Saxons*.
Our programme is a lovely way to start off your Key Stage history topic. The day is structured around a series of hands on activities that encourage children to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. Activities may include: wattle and daub, making pennies, bread making, foraging, milling, woodwork, dressing up and forge working.
The clothing and tools used in our village are some examples of what craftsmen, woman and even children would have used in 410 AD – 1066.
*Programme content is flexible and can be tailored to complement topics being studied at school.

The activities in our bush craft programme provide students with an insight into survival in the wild.
These fun activities may include: fire making, shelter building, water filtration, foraging and animal tracking. All of which develop resilience, team building and require determination.
We offer multiple activities for team building which will help students learn how to work as a team, solve problems and enjoy each other’s company.
We use giant skies, orienteering, imaginative scenarios and games to help students better understand the meaning and importance of team work.
This area of study is a great introduction to the natural sciences curriculum allowing students to learn about habitat, animal adaptations and conservation. Programmes can be adjusted to your classes needs whether its age, group size, a fun day out or linking to your classroom topics.
Activities can include a tour around our British wildlife collection, visiting the red squirrels, watching a bird display (for an additional charge), pond dipping mini beast hunts, talks and a few games.
Other general activities that we can provide are senses during park walk, marshmallows around the campfire, making wood cookie necklaces and badges, and the maze challenge.
To add a unique finish to your day, take the challenge of our swamp walk – a 100 metre meander in bare feet through the mire. Its cold, smelly and an enormous amount of fun! Swamp walks are available on request.
Please email or telephone the education office for more information about the topics covered, pricing and availability.
Our yurt village can accommodate up to 56 children and 10 staff in 4 gender-specific sleeping yurts, all connected by a central meeting and activities yurt.
The central yurt also includes overnight facilities for two teachers ensuring that supervision is on hand throughout the stay. For extra staff we have available a staff yurt which is located directly behind the main yurt set up.
The site has hot showers, flushing toilets and a fully equipped kitchen where our staff can cater for meal times.
There is a large playing field area surrounding the yurts, perfect for free time games and sports. We also have an outdoor campfire circle for you to use at your leisure.
During opening hours, you are free to use the parks facilities, however when the park closes there is no access unless accompanied by a Wildwood Devon staff member.
Comprehensive risk assessments are available on request.
We offer excellent educational programmes at very competitive prices in an environment which is safe, fun and unique. Your students will remember their visit to Devon for years to come.
